Symposium Events 2.00pm: Janek Schaefer "Vacant
Space"Since posting his sound-activated recorder to
Brian Eno's "Self Storage"
exhibition in 1995, Janek has established a fascinating career of sound
art work and performance. He will present his steps to date which have
led to "Vacant Space", the new immersive audio-visual installation
commissioned by Sonic Arts Network, in which he has collaborated with
sound recording artist Chris Watson, and programmer, David Tinapple. 3.00pm: Dr. Aaron Watson "Acoustic Research of Megalithic Monuments" As artist and archaeologist,
Aaron Watson explores the ways in which prehistoric monuments and landscapes
are perceived and experienced.
Ultimately, Aaron's work seeks to communicate beyond the language
of archaeology; to make tangible something of the awe, inspiration,
uncertainty and strangeness that colours encounters with prehistoric
places. 4.15pm: Ed Baxter (Resonance FM) "Radio and Locale" Audio is characterised by its fluidity, plurality
and sense of dislocation. The analogue signal itself has become displaced
in the digital realm. From this displacement, this apparent obsolescence,
arises new meanings for radio. All music has become incidental. “CDs
sound better when heard in the next room.” 5.30pm: Discussion Panel feat:
Richard Whitelaw (Sonic Arts Network), David Prior (Liminal), Mike Barnett
(Beyond Recs/Earthwind), Neil C. Smith (artist)
